WOMEN’S FILMMAKER SHOWCASE Presented by the Big Apple Film Festival Year Round Screening Series will take place from January 19th-20th, 2018 at SVA Theatre, NYC.
Big Apple Film Festival Women’s Filmmaker Showcase is an exhibition and celebration of independent films by established and up and coming women filmmakers. The series will include NYC premieres, filmmaker Q and A’s, and a networking reception.
The event is part of the Big Apple Film Festival’s new and exciting Year Round Screening Series.”¨”‹ The goal of this particular series is to promote and empower women filmmakers, and to foster and promote emerging talent. According to a study from the Center of the Study for Women in Film and Television, “Women accounted for 28% of all creators, directors, writers, executive producers, producers, editors, and directors of photography working on programs delivered via the various platforms last year.” Additionally, according to a recent study from the Hollywood Reporter, “Women made up just 7 percent of all directors on the top 250 films, a 2 percent decline from 2015, according to San Diego State’s Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film.” Thus, through this series, the Big Apple Film Festival hopes to make a difference and recognize the importance of and the contributions of women filmmakers.
