Open House New York invites you to a design presentation and construction update for Pier 55 with Paul Westwood, Project Lead, Heatherwick Studio; Signe Nielsen Principal, Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects; and Celine Armstrong, Executive Project Manager, Pier55.
Inspired by the structural remains of the old wooden piers that used to line the Hudson River waterfront, Pier 55 fuses 280 concrete piles in a tessellating pattern to form the park’s distinctive topography. Once completed, the hilly landscape will host more than a hundred native tree and plant species in more than three acres of parkland. Pier 55 will also have an outdoor theater for over 700 people, along with a smaller performance space for 200, and many pathways and viewing platforms offering unique vantage points of the New York City skyline. The project is expected to open in spring 2021.
