Showbiz! Book Launch with Murray Hill

Oct 6, 2026 | 7:30 pm

Celebrate Murray Hill’s debut book launch Showbiz! My Life as a Middle-Aged Man with Mr. Showbiz himself, MURRAY HILL, in conversation with his friends and Somebody Somewhere castmates BRIDGET EVERETT & JEFF HILLER!

One Night Only! Join comedian Murray Hill for an intimate in-conversation event celebrating the release of his debut memoir Showbiz! My Life as a Middle-Aged Man (Simon & Schuster’s Gallery Books). The self-proclaimed “hardest working middle-aged man in show business” sits down for a candid, unscripted evening of stories, laughs, revelations, and behind-the-curtain moments — sharing the real-life highs, lows, and everything in between that shaped his showbiz career. His dear friends and castmates on HBO’s Somebody Somewhere — legendary Bridget Everett and Emmy-winner Jeff Hiller will join the conversation, adding even more surprises (and laughs) to this one-of-a-kind night.

Murray is thrilled to have his book launch at SVA Theatre, his graduate school alma mater. While at SVA, he created his persona and began performing in NYC in the 1990’s.

Following the conversation, Murray will take questions from the audience in a live Q&A. And because he’s the hardest working middle-aged man in show business, he’ll stick around after the event to sign every single person’s book — no rush, no line left behind.

After the talkback, there will be a reception in the lobby with drinks and lite bites available, and music from DJ Champagne Jerry. All ticketed guests are welcome.

Everyone’s favorite local independent bookstore, The Strand, will be onsite to sell additional copies of Showbiz!

About the Book

In his powerful debut memoir, Showbiz! My Life as a Middle-Aged Man, beloved comedian Murray Hill opens up for the first time about how a painful past led to an unwavering commitment to spread joy—one rimshot at a time.

Murray on his book: “Let’s just say the world could use a little more heart and a lot more honesty right now. I’ve always believed in chosen family, resilience, and a well-timed punchline—this book is all three. It’s not just about where I’ve been, it’s about how we keep going.”

About Murray Hill

Murray Hill, the self-proclaimed hardest-working middle-aged man in show business, is a one-man entertainment machine: comedian, host, actor, writer, producer, and walking time capsule of classic showbiz charm. With razor-sharp wit, quickfire ad-libs, and a wink that could light up any stage, Murray has spent decades turning every stage he steps on into his own personal variety show. He played the lovable Fred Rococo on HBO’s Somebody Somewhere, the Peabody-winning, AFI-honored comedy that also earned a Critics’ Choice LGBT+ Ensemble Award. He’s popped up everywhere from Life & Beth and Drag Me To Dinner (Hulu) to Elsbeth (CBS), Welcome to Flatch (FOX), and King of Drag (Revry). On the big screen, he starred in Paul Feig’s Jackpot! with John Cena and Awkwafina, and will share holiday cheer with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the upcoming movie Man With The Bag.

Murray’s talents extend beyond performance. He’s served as a guest correspondent for ABC News and Hulu’s Pride Across America, reporting live from the nation’s biggest Pride celebrations. NBC News named him one of the “30 Most Iconic and Influential Drag Performers in Modern History.” His debut memoir, Showbiz! My Life as a Middle-Aged Man will be published by Simon & Schuster’s Gallery Books October 6, 2026.

His work spans theater, television, and international touring, solidifying his reputation as a singular voice in comedy and a champion of inclusive, joy-driven performance. Murray Hill brings an old-school showbiz sensibility to a new generation, proving that quick wit, big heart, and a well-timed rimshot never go out of style. IG: @MurrayHill
