This year marked the 25th Anniversary of the School of Visual Arts’ Dusty Film & Animation Festival, showcasing the world’s most promising filmmakers and animators.
Held each spring since 1990, the Dusty Festival culminates in an awards ceremony with celebrity presenters and prominent industry professionals. It is held in the College’s state-of-the-art SVA Theatre, located in the heart of New York’s legendary Chelsea neighborhood.
Thirteen thesis students won awards in categories that represented this year’s best in film and animation at our 25th Dusty Awards Ceremony. These awards were presented to our students by actor Ellen Barkin, director Michael Cuesta, documentarian Peter LeDonne, cinematographer Frank Prinzi, ASC, screenwriter José Rivera, editor and Academy Award winner Thelma Schoonmaker, animation director Ralph Bakshi and other industry luminaries.
This year we also honored producer Randall Emmett (BFA 1994) Lone Survivor, End of Watch, Two Guns and animation director/producer Yvette Kaplan (BFA 1976) Ice Age, King of the Hill, Beavis and Butthead; with our first-ever Dusty Outstanding Alumni Awards.
