Monday, September 23, 2013
Beatrice Theatre
7:00 pm

Event hosted by: Dear Dave Magazine

Artist Todd Hido discusses his work and his latest monograph, Excerpts from Silver Meadows (Nazraeli, 2013), with gallerist, lecturer, writer and editor Darius Himes. Named for a street in the Ohio neighborhood where the artist grew up, Excerpts looks back on Hido’s upbringing and his dawning awareness of “the darker aspects of life beyond.”
Todd Hido’s work has been featured in more than a dozen books and in such publications as Artforum, Eyemazing, The Face, i-D, Metropolis, The New York Times Magazine and Vanity Fair. His photographs are in the permanent collections of such institutions as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
Darius Himes, named by PDN as one of the 15 most influential people in photography book publishing, is director of the Fraenkel Gallery, San Francisco, and co-founder of Radius Books. He was founding editor of photo-eye Booklist, an influential quarterly that ran from 2002 to 2007, and has contributed to American Photo, Aperture, Blind Spot, Bookforum, BOMB and PDN. A second edition of his most recent book, Publish Your Photography Book (Princeton Architectural, 2011), co-authored with Mary Virginia Swanson, will be released in the spring of 2014.
Presented by DEAR DAVE and the BFA Photography Department.
