As part of After School Special: The 2021 School of Visual Arts Alumni Film & Animation Festival, we are pleased to present the NYC Cinematic Premiere screening of FilmRise’s feature film Drunk Bus (2020), followed by a Q&A with the film’s co-director, SVA alumnus John Carlucci (BFA 1997 Film and Video), and other members of the film’s creative team, including SVA alumni artists Aditi Khosla (BFA 2014 Computer Art, Computer Animation and Visual Effects), Ben Kim (BFA 2002 Graphic Design), Dan Krupin (BFA 2006 Illustration), and Taylor Levy (BFA 2012 Film and Video).  Following a conversation with the alumni, co-director Brandon LaGanke and actors Charlie Tahan (Ozark, Gotham) and Dave Hill (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Girls5eva) will join the Q&A.  Current SVA student Emily Casey (BFA 2023 Film) will moderate the Q&A.

Synopsis: A directionless, young campus bus driver and a punk rock, Samoan security guard named Pineapple form an unlikely kinship as they navigate the unpredictable late shift sh*t show known as the “drunk bus.” Together, they break out of their endless loop and into a world of uncertainty, excitement and incredibly poor decision-making.

Drunk Bus is not rated by the MPAA, and some material may be inappropriate for children under the age of 17. Children ages 12 and under will not be admitted.

Doors will open approximately 30 minutes prior to each screening, and guests can enjoy visual art featured in Drunk Bus, created by SVA alumnus Dan Krupin.  Additionally, music videos by Samuel Bayer (BFA 1987 Media Arts) will be featured in the lobby throughout the festival. Bayer, the director behind iconic videos like Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and Green Day’s “American Idiot”, will be present at select After School Special 2021 screenings for brief Q&As preceding the feature films.
