Saturday Church is the story of 14-year-old Ulysses, a shy and effeminate boy who finds himself coping with new responsibilities as “man of the house” after the death of his father. Living with his mother, younger brother, and conservative aunt, Ulysses struggles with questions about his gender identity and finds escape by creating a fantasy world filled with dance and music. When he encounters a vibrant transgender community that leads him to “Saturday Church,” a program for LGBTQ youth where he learns to “vogue,” he manages to keep his two worlds apart until his double life is finally revealed. Ulysses must find the courage to be who he truly is, all while risking losing those he cares about most.
Followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers.
Doors open at 7:00PM. RSVPs not accepted nor required.
