Event hosted by: School of Visual Arts
Event hosted by: SVA Theatre
As part of After School Special: The 2024 School of Visual Arts Alumni Film & Animation Festival, we are pleased to present a special screening of the John Waters’ classic, Hairspray (1988), shown on 35mm film. While no SVA alumni were involved in the making of the film, two of our esteemed alumni, Somebody Somewhere‘s Murray Hill (MFA 1997 Photography and Related Media) and Difficult People‘s Julie Klausner (MFA 2007 Illustration as Visual Essay) selected it as one of their favorite films to watch and discuss. Before the movie, the two actor-writer-comedians take the stage for a fun, funny, and intimate chat!
Synopsis: A ‘pleasantly plump’ teenager teaches 1962 Baltimore a thing or two about integration after landing a spot on a local TV dance show.
Hairspray is rated PG, and some material may be inappropriate for children under the age of 8. Children ages 3 and under may not be admitted.
Doors will open approximately 30 minutes prior to each screening. Guests can enjoy a special selection of videos by SVA alumni in the lobby while waiting to enter.
