As part of After School Special: The 2023 School of Visual Arts Alumni Film & Animation Festival, we are pleased to present a screening of the Netflix animated film Nimona (2023), followed by a Q&A with SVA alumni artists who will discuss their work on the film — Hannah Roman (MFA 2016 Computer Art) and Toba Siebzener (BFA 2014 Computer Art, Computer Animation and Visual Effects).  The Q&A will be moderated by current SVA student Michelle Marakasherry Albin (BFA 2024 3D Animation and Visual Effects).

The film will be preceded by the New York City cinematic premiere of the short film Hang Out 2day (2022) by Sam Grinberg (BFA 2013 Cartooning).

Synopsis: When a knight in a futuristic medieval world is framed for a crime he didn’t commit, the only one who can help him prove his innocence is Nimona — a mischievous teen who happens to be a shapeshifting creature he’s sworn to destroy.

Nimona is rated PG, and some material may not be suitable for children. Children ages 3 and under may not be admitted.

Doors will open approximately 30 minutes prior to each screening, and guests can enjoy music videos by Vashtie Kola (BFA 2004 Film and Video) in the lobby while waiting to enter.
