As part of After School Special: The 2021 School of Visual Arts Alumni Film & Animation Festival, we are pleased to present a screening of three episodes of Netflix and Titmouse Animation’s adult animated series The Midnight Gospel (2020).  Several members of the series’ animation team — all graduates of SVA’s BFA Animation department — will be present for a Q&A.  Animators scheduled to participate include Evan Borja, Angela De Vito, Joe Sulsenti, and Courtney Vonada.  Current SVA student Brigid Slevin (BFA 2023 Animation) will moderate the Q&A.

Synopsis: Clancy, a spacecaster with a malfunctioning multiverse simulator, leaves the comfort of his home to interview beings living in dying worlds.  Created by and featuring the voice of Duncan Trussell.

The Midnight Gospel is rated TV-MA, and some material may be inappropriate for children under the age of 17.  Children ages 12 and under will not be admitted.

Doors will open approximately 30 minutes prior to each screening, and guests can enjoy music videos by Samuel Bayer (BFA 1987 Media Arts) in the lobby while waiting to enter. Bayer, the director behind iconic videos like Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and Green Day’s “American Idiot”, will be present at select After School Special 2021 screenings for brief Q&As preceding the feature films.

All After School Special 2021 screenings are free and open to the public. General Admission RSVPs via Eventbrite are appreciated, but not necessary, and do not guarantee admittance.  Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
