This year marks the zodiac year for the New York cultural salon. On Independence Day 2013, a dozen strangers sat in a Jersey City living room, listening to a newly arrived New York office worker discuss the concept of “time” from various perspectives, including science, religion, culture, and philosophy. At the time, no one could have imagined that this seemingly spontaneous event would endure for over a decade. It may not have left a lasting impression in the bustling city, and for the fleeting New Yorkers, it was merely a pastime after dinner. But we believe it stirred the hearts of everyone who crossed paths with it, allowing them to temporarily escape their routines and see unimagined landscapes.

Last summer, the salon celebrated its 11th anniversary and its 200th edition. To celebrate this remarkable journey, we held the first “Salon Carnival,” revisiting the theme of the first edition—16 speakers exploring the concept of “time” from 16 perspectives. This year’s theme is: ” How will AI change my life?

At the end of 2022, ChatGPT emerged, ushering in the dawn of general artificial intelligence. Over the past two years, everyone has been impacted by AI in varying degrees in their lives and work. It may be your emotional advisor, your daily gospel teller, your productivity mentor, or a source of artistic inspiration. It may have helped you make your first pot of gold, changed the way you access information and even understand the world, made you rethink the meaning of humanity and the boundaries of machines, or perhaps brought about negative consequences that were drowned out by mainstream voices… We hope you will share your own personal experiences of how AI has changed you. It can be positive or negative; it can be a practical case study and method, a metaphysical speculation, or even a work of art. This is not a technical summit; we welcome all personal perspectives on AI.

After the open mic, light meals, snacks, and drinks will be available in the public area of the theater lobby. You’re welcome to discuss your experiences and insights with the speakers and attendees. We will also invite New York Chinese organizations, societies, institutions, artists, and writers to showcase their community and works. This is not only a carnival of New York cultural salons, but also a gathering of the Chinese community in New York, celebrating our contributions and achievements.
